Black Keys Concert Revitalizes Rock

Last Thursday, I attended the Black Keys and Cage the Elephant concert at the Bell Centre. The show lasted about three hours and was great from beginning to end. The audience spent very little time in their seats during the concert, which speaks to the quality of the music and performance in general.

The Votes Are In!

Social media was buzzing on the night of September 18th as votes were counted in Scotland. The question “should Scotland become an independent country?” resulted in a 55% “No” vote and 45% “Yes” one and a turnout of 84% (BBC, The Week, The Guardian)! So, who exactly was involved in this, you might ask?

Beheading in Syria

David Haines, a British aid worker who was abducted last year, was executed in a beheading by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) early this month, on September 13th. ISIS, an unrecognized caliphate, or Islamic sovereign state, has thus far beheaded at least three identified hostages, and several more unidentified soldiers. As per the organization’s modus operandi, the execution was recorded and shared online.

Montreal Canadiens Announce New Leadership

The Montreal Canadiens will not have a captain this year. Instead, they will have four assistant captains, two of whom will wear the “A” every single game. The decision was announced on Monday of last week during the team’s annual charity golf tournament. The four players named as assistant captains are veteran defenceman Andrei Markov, longtime forward Thomas Plekanec, Max Pacioretty, and rising star P.K Subban.
