What are some ways that I can manage stress now that school is back in full swing?

First, breathe in and out, and then repeat. This is an important step that students often forget. Going back to school can be stressful, and the best way to manage this is to stay calm and always stay on top of your school work. The best way to do this is by being organized and not procrastinating… which means postponing that plan to watch all 10 seasons of Friends for the fifth time. No matter how epic the love story of Ross and Rachel is, it will have to wait. Do your assignments on time, study for tests, and come to class prepared and ready to learn.

I feel like my friend is uncomfortable confiding in me when he’s having personal struggles, because whenever he seems down he never wants to tell me what’s wrong. I just want to be there for him and for him to feel supported. What should I do?

That’s easy, drop him. Alright, joking aside, do not freak out. Sometimes people have a hard time opening up about their emotions. Try not to take it personally. When he feels comfortable and ready, he will open up. You cannot force it out of him; that will just make him even more closed off. Make sure he knows you are there for him no matter what. Let him know that you will not judge him, and that you are there even if all he needs is a good vent session. Sometimes, just knowing someone is there for you is all you need. And of course a good iced cappuccino from Tim Hortons!
