Join A Club
Get Involved, and Make Friends and Memories to Last a Lifetime
JAC is the proud home of a great variety of clubs. There is a place for anyone and everyone to meet new people who enjoy the same things that you do.
For those of you in your first few weeks of your college career, you may be finding yourself hestitant to join a club because it could distract you from your school work, but I have some interesting statistics for you. Research done by John Abbott College has determined that students who get involved have grades 4.5% higher than the college average. Clubs help you develop time management skills, while making some great new friends.
For those of you who are unaware of all the different clubs Abbott has to offer, please stop by Student Activities where you can see a complete club list. However, it is entirely possible that none of the clubs offered at Abbott interest you. Don’t worry, there is a solution for that! You can start your very own club, just gather a bunch of interested friends and go see Kathy in the SUJAC office (P-101) or head over to Student Activities and ask there. If you are still hesitant, don’t worry, you’ll be happy to know you can join a club at any point throughout the semester. So if a few weeks have passed and you’re ready to join in after you’ve had a chance to get used to the school, please do!
On a personal level, clubs have really benefited me and my experience at JAC. In five years I won’t remember the topic of my psychology essay but I will remember sitting with all my friends in Bandersnatch as we laughed until we cried. College are some of the best years of your life, so take advantage and have the most fun you possibly can. I sincerely believe that would not be achievable without joining a club.
