Lockdown the Gym to Open the Mind

In the past three years of CÉGEP, with every assignment, every test, every deadline, every rejection, and every failure, weightlifting has been a solace for me. Every visit has done its science thing of releasing endorphins and made me feel good things. The gym was somewhere I could go, no matter what, and feel good, accomplish something regardless of what was happening outside those four walls.

Due to COVID-19, gyms have been closed everywhere, I do not have a home gym, my heaviest weights are fifteen-pound dumbbells. It has been quite an adjustment to adapt to these new conditions. This is when it becomes important to try something new.

Humankind is best known for adaptability. If things change, we learn and then we adapt. This is why I have become grateful towards this amazing fitness community online. We open up our minds to new possibilities, and it constantly amazes me with what we are capable of if we just take a moment to breathe and think. The creativity that stems from people is just incredible.

People are trying things that they would have never thought of and giving things a chance that they would have never done because they “never had enough time.” We are getting creative and really looking at what we have and what we can do with that instead.

We look around ourselves and we can either see a cage and loss, or we can see creativity and opportunity. With a twist of perspective, the world changes.
