October: The Month For Sports Fans

We all categorize the month of October with Halloween whether it be what you are dressing up as or who is hosting a Halloween party. For some October has even more value. October is a serious treat for sports fans all over North America. The real difficulty is figuring out which event to watch over the other. As the month is winding down, so are some sport seasons while others are just starting getting interesting.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season is coming to an end and the playoffs are right around the corner. While Montreal’s hometown Impact team is sadly not qualifying for the post season, Canada undoubtedly has the likes for Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Although this league will never compare to the technical quality of the European plays, the MLS can still put on a little bit of a show.

Next there is the Canadian Football League (CFL). Although many prefer the football from the south of the border, the Canadian one does not disappoint, nonetheless. Their regular season is rapidly approaching the end, and with the Montreal Alouettes eliminated from post season contention as their quarterback problems continue among other things, the Eastern Conference is truly a disaster compared to the West where they dominate and get better every game.

The National Football League (NFL) season is still young and much more appreciated than the CFL. However, what is making headlines is not the dominance of a specific player or team: it is the ongoing anthem issue with the President of the United States M. Donald Trump. What started as a peaceful protest towards equality, turned into a disgrace to the flag; thanks to Trump’s famous tweets. Anyway, people can still enjoy some great stuff from the NFL as the season is just getting started.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) season is only about a week old and even though it has not been going on from the beginning of the month like everything else it still has its place in this article. It will be interesting if Cleveland and especially Golden State can keep embarrassing teams because star players do not know where to go. It would be nice to see a change regarding who makes it all the way to the finals.

Also, the Major League Baseball (MLB) is a hot topic. Why? The post season runs all the way through the month of October. As the month winds down, we get closer to the finish line and the trophy. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros are set to square off in an eventful post season to see who will be crowned champions. As for everyone else, see you in the spring.

Finally, the NHL makes the Canadians patiently wait in hopes of having the cup return to the city of Montreal. However, realistically, many fans only hope that the Montreal Canadians can come back on their feet as their season start was absolutely
horrific. It does not help that they also had to go through the California road trip where they never saw success. While that comes as a shock to many others, the Vegas Golden Knights surprised us with their first year in the league and their hot and dynamic start. Hockey is back and there are some things to like and others to hate.

The start of the season and the post season are what make things interesting in the world of sports. Agreed? October has a little bit of everything which makes it sometimes hard for people to follow every single league. Hopefully, October will motivate you watching the important games on TV.
