Self- Consciousness

Being self-conscious
is similar to constantly
getting run over by a car:
You know it hurts,
but you never want
the pain to go away.
You learn to live with it.
These people make
jokes about
their sensitive side as
easily as a Saturday-night
comedian makes
self-deprecation jokes
as a ‘side hobby’ at the
bar five minutes from your house.
You go there, you laugh, you have
a few drinks with friends.
A few drinks with unknowns.
A few drinks with
soon-to-be-friends.
And you’re wondering what they think of you.
