In the past two weeks, a few major events happened at the College.
On the subject of the Global Climate Strike coming to Montreal this Friday, September 27th, led by Greta Thunberg, a school-wide referendum was passed for all full-time John Abbot Students registered in the fall semester. The Omnivox vote was cast from Thursday to Sunday, September 19th to 22nd. During this time, 4,808 students voted, with 78% responding in favor of the strike.
The College will be holding an institutional day on Friday, September 27th, and classes will be recovered on Wednesday, December 11th. The College will remain open as planned for facilities.
The march will be in downtown Montréal, at the George-Étienne Cartier Statue in Mont Royal Park. It will go from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For people interested in joining in, there will be a march from the College to downtown to join the march. For more information, please MIO Evan Wolf and Julia Carrier of EcoJAC. Also, keep an eye on The Portal for information about the bus going to the march from the College (one-way), sponsored by the Faculty Association.
SUJAC is working hard for the students. In the past two weeks, SUJAC negotiated discounts with local restaurants. Stay tuned for updates.
Also, one of the SUJAC Executives commemorated past Alumni inducted to the John Abbott College Hall of Distinction on Friday, September 20th.
COAC (Coalition of Anglophone CEGEPs) is meeting up soon. If you have any questions or want certain topics to be discussed, please MIO Davy Iconzi Irakoze for more information. The door of the SUJAC office is always open. Drop by P-101 if you have any questions.
