What to Do When You Want to Have Some Fun Downtown
It’s the beginning of February, and I’m sure we all have reasons to complain… Let me guess, school started 4 weeks ago, but it feels like it’s been going on f-o-r-e-v-e-r. You leave your house in the morning wishing you were already back in your warm and cozy bed, yet you know the next time you’ll fall sound asleep will probably be on your desk, late at night, studying for that test you TOTALLY forgot about. Once the weekend finally comes, it feels like a relief, but all you want to do is cuddle in that bed of yours and watch Netflix (a.k.a “the student’s hibernation state.”) Yes, I know the feeling, but let’s not get discouraged because of the white snow and the cold wind! Take some time off, call some friends, put on your black boots, and head to downtown Montreal where there are tons of things you can do that will make winter go by way faster. Here are 5 ideas of things to do depending on your mood.
If you feel like expressing your artistic side in a relaxing atmosphere, head to Céramic Café (4338 Rue Saint-Denis, Plateau-Mont-Royal) where you can decompress with a cup of coffee while painting a piece of ceramic and chatting with your family/friends/yourself. Honestly, why not?
If you’re (18+) and into board games, check out this awesome place on Rue St-Denis where there are hundreds (literally hundreds) of board games to choose from that will guarantee a good time with your friends. The Randolph pub (2041 Saint-Denis, Metro Berri-UQAM / Sherbrooke) has a variety of food and drinks that are absolutely delicious and will definitely cheer you up if you’re the « I hate losing » type of player. Plus, they often have special event nights!
Looking for a way to enjoy the winter without staying in your own backyard/neighborhood? Head to Parc Jean-Drapeau for La Fête des Neiges de Montréal. There will be numerous shows, and the best part is: the access to the site is free! And -for the record- it is mainly organized and sponsored by our coffee and timbits provider during the tough winter months: the one, the only, Tim Hortons!
Need to release some pressure after a long, hard week full of papers and tests? Go out and laugh your head off watching some improvisational comedy at Montreal Improv (Studio A: 3697 Rue St-Laurent. Studio B: 3731 Rue St-Laurent #202.) I guarantee you will feel as light as a feather after a good laughing session!
Another way you can blow off some steam is by going to PangPang karaoke bar (1226 rue Mackay.) But wait! It’s not just like any karaoke bar: you can get your own private room, and since it becomes really more intimate, you can really let your inner Christina Aguilera/Michael Bublé shine !
If you have already been to these places, you probably know how fun they are. If you haven’t, well you know what to do! Call a friend and get dressed!
