I know that I shouldn’t, but god is it true
I’ve never wanted anything more than this view
It’s something so rare, like a dog with a bone
With the lights overhead, the memories overgrown
I know that you wouldn’t, but god what I’d do
Just to stand one more second on this porch watching you
Where the days felt like minutes, and the seconds like years
I’d wait in this cold as the ache disappears
Because with time, now it’s gone, after holding so long
I won’t, not this time, fall in blind
I’ll undo what went wrong, with your hair, dirty blonde
And my words, not to spite, not unkind
I know that we won’t, but I’d beat myself blue
Without ever admitting I’m the one missing you
I want to be in your car, not watch the headlights go by
I wish, oh I wish I could go back in time
