Carnival Chairman Roasts Newspaper
To the Editor:
It has been said that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is quite apparent in the case of some of your news stories. It seems one of your reporters is more concerned with exposing his own personal biases than telling JAC students what actually happened.
Dave Muir stated last issue that the Carnival was mismanaged. He cited an example of this as eighty dollars was misplaced and later found in a filing cabinet. If misplacing things is proof of mismanagement, does that mean Bandersnatch is mismanaged? After all, the newspaper “misplaced” hundreds of dollars worth of ads last issue. They were never found. Ironically, Muir’s old nemesis, Mark Pearson, had to bring copies of the ads from Toronto, thus saving the paper’s neck.
He further states that the Carnival was a “four-day drunk”. Maybe it was—for him.
However, to many students it was a chance to get together and participate in the most successful social event of the year. The article goes on to condemn the Carnival Committee for overspending and running a deficit. There is no question that there was a deficit but many students are not walking cash registers. How can you put a social event on a balance sheet? It simply can’t be measured in terms of dollars.
Every issue we are exposed to yet another attack by your reporter on someone who doesn’t agree with his “established ways of doing things.
It can be predicted that this article will draw the fury of your reporter and more attacks will ensue. Perhaps it’s time for redefining your goals.
