It’s October! Spooky season is just around the corner! What’s your favorite scary movie? Take your pick between… No, no, no, hold up, folks, before you all get your Halloween costumes and decorations out, let me tell you guys about…the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC)! It’s a film festival that will be held here, in Montreal, from October 9th to October 20th. Open to all, it’s an event that’ll showcase the best local and international films. Tickets can be purchased at the venues or on nouveaucinema.ca, with special discounts available for students and seniors.

For its 53rd edition this year, the FNC will host a selection of 102 feature films and 98 shorts films from various categories (experimental, new media, fiction…) and countries like Belgium, Argentina, Vietnam, United Kingdom and many more. Did you know that the latest Palme d’Or winning film, Anora, by Sean Baker will be making an appearance at the FNC? That’s right, THE winner of THE Palme d’Or, one of the film industry’s most prestigious awards, will be here in Montreal. It’s one of the many great films that’ll be showing at the FNC. Venues that will host screenings include Concordia University, Cineplex Quartier Latin and the Cinémathèque québécoise.

In addition to screenings, there will be forums and discussions, national student short-films presentations with Q&As as well as awards that’ll be given out by juries. It’s an exciting event for cinephiles, amateurs and novices alike. Prepare to be immersed in the art of cinema at its finest!

Here’s a couple of the featured films from the festival: There, there (Heather Young), Juste des robots (Maxime Mompérousse), Retrace (Thi Ha Trang Tran), Là d’où l’on vient (Meryam Joobeur).
