Red All Over

Something was there
In the heavy June air
With your heartbeat inside of my lungs
Before she came around
And the leaves turned to brown
And the red was all over my gums

But your fingertips hold
Every word that’s unknown
To myself, to the world, and to the stars
I get drunk on the sound
Of a body that drowns
As the shore opens up to the scars
