S.A. Meeting a Flop
By Dave Muir
The annual general meeting of the Students’ Association was in the words of one executive member a “complete and utter waste of time”.
The Executive itself failed to attain a quorum, as well as the fact that four students out of an Association of 3600 saw fit to attend.
The general meeting of all students was supposed to deal with the perennial problem of the constitution of the Executive. In the words of two members of the Executive, however, “nothing was really accomplished.”
As the meeting progressed it became apparent that the Executive is out of touch with itself and reality.
Five members decided in their wisdom not to come. When the question about electoral procedures and who was responsible for them was raised none of the four could answer for sure.
Ron Doyle, Chairman of Internal–External Affairs, caused quite a stir when he left the meeting with no explanation. Two of the remaining three Executives, Martin Bennett and Gary Mahlhorn were quite incensed while the chairman ignored the incident.
With elections coming up shortly it is frustrating for the other Executives that the Chairman of Internal Affairs can walk out of a crucial meeting.
