SUJAC UPDATE!

By Vanshika Manan
Vice President of External Affairs

Hello Everyone!

We’re excited to share some critical updates from SUJAC as we work diligently to address key issues impacting our school community, particularly in transportation. To strengthen our efforts, we have established a dedicated committee in conjunction with Congress focused on identifying and implementing solutions to the school’s transportation challenges. This should enable us to focus on more specific issues and address them more rapidly.

Our SUJAC Executives attended the General Assembly of CASAQ (Coalition of Anglophone Student Associations of Quebec) at Vanier on October 18. Representatives from CEGEPs, including John Abbott, Dawson, Champlain, Marianopolis, and Vanier, engaged in discussions about intercollegiate events and the challenges faced by our schools, collaboratively brainstorming innovative solutions. This gathering was a fantastic opportunity to draw inspiration from our peers and forge intercollegiate connections.

In our ongoing commitment to enhancing the campus environment, we have recently focused on renovating the Stewart Hall Fishbowl and the Fireplace lobby outside the Cafeteria. We have finalized plans for new furniture and design elements that prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, and functionality. The Fishbowl will feature lighter colours to create a more inviting atmosphere. At the same time, the Fireplace lobby will be furnished with additional couches and tables, providing students with more space to relax and unwind. We anticipate that these exciting transformations will be completed after the December break.

Finally, to pursue greater transparency, we are launching a school-wide SUJAC General Assembly initiative. Scheduled for Monday, November 25, at 5:30 pm in P-204, this event is open to all John Abbott students. It will be an excellent opportunity to present the SUJAC budget, discuss ongoing initiatives, address concerns, and explore potential solutions. We’ll also provide small refreshments. We encourage you to attend and share your insights—your feedback is invaluable in helping us represent you better.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you at the General Assembly!
