SUJAC Update: September 2024

By Vanshika Manan
Vice President of External Affairs
We are pleased to announce that SUJAC has successfully filled 36 Pre-University seats and 5 Technical program seats. We have elected our Chairperson, Christine He, who will facilitate our meetings in accordance with the congress agenda, and our Secretary, Akira Ricaldi, who will be responsible for documenting minutes and keeping our plans updated.
In recent weeks, Congress has been focused on enhancing our meeting format to promote more dynamic discussions. We have adopted a new structure that includes information sessions featuring guest speakers alongside one out of every three meetings being held in a classroom setting to encourage small-group brainstorming and project development. We have also been working on solidifying our priorities for the year which will be to better define our brand with relation to the student body, to promote sustainability in all aspects on campus and to maximize student spaces.
We recognize that pressing issues like parking and Bill 96 are on many students’ minds. While enacting change in these areas can be challenging, SUJAC is dedicated to listening to your concerns and actively pursuing solutions to improve student life.
Recently, we held a productive meeting with the Director General, the Director of Student Services, and the Academic Dean, where we brainstormed strategies to address these challenges and gain a deeper understanding of them. We are continuing our efforts and hope to update you soon.
We are also committed to fostering club enrollment, as we have numerous outstanding options available at JAC. To support this initiative, we have developed club outlines now accessible on Omnivox, which provide detailed descriptions of each club and their offerings.
Lastly, we recently approved the Dawson Student Union’s petition to exempt Indigenous students from Law 14. This petition will be made available to all students via QR codes posted across campus on September 30th and the following week, aiming to gather as many online signatures as possible to urge governmental action. Thank you for your continued support and engagement! And please never hesitate to drop by P-101 for any questions or concerns.
