World Series Heats Up

The 2025 World Series is currently shaping up to be unforgettable. On Saturday night, game 2 of the World Series ended in a 5-1 victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Toronto Blue Jays. This follows an explosive 11-4 win from the Blue Jays in game 1. Now, with the series tied at 1-1 in a best of 7, fans from all over the world are on the edges of their seats.
Saturday’s game was filled with action. Dodgers pitcher Yamamoto put on a masterclass at the Rogers Centre, throwing the first complete game in a World Series since 2015. After retiring 20 straight batters (the most by a Dodgers pitcher in the postseason) Yamamoto created franchise history. Additionally, Dodgers infielder Max Muncy hit a solo home run.
The Blue Jays are the underdogs of the series. The Dodgers won the World Series in 2020 and 2024, and boast an impressive payroll of over 350 million dollars. Comparatively, the Blue Jays last made it to the World Series in 1993, over 30 years ago.
Additionally, their payroll is about 100 million dollars lower than that of the Dodgers
The Blue Jays are also the only Canadian team left in the MLB, so the pressure is on for them to make Canada proud (especially in the midst of political tensions between the United States and Canada).
Although the Dodgers have a star studded lineup, consisting of various standouts like Shohei Ohtani, the Blue Jays roster have proved themselves time and time again this year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been credited as one of the most integral parts of the Blue Jays success this season. The 500 million dollar slugger is a Montreal native, and son of former Montreal Expos player Vladimir Guerrero Sr. His goal this season is deeply personal: to make the Toronto Blue Jays into World Series Champions, and give his ring to his father who never got to achieve the feat.
Although the result of Saturday’s match was less than ideal for Blue Jays fans, all hope is not lost. Spirits in the Rogers Center were still high after the loss, with fans keeping a positive and enthusiastic view on the series. Players and staff alike are keeping an optimistic outlook on the games to come. With only two games of the series played, anything is possible.
“I don’t think anybody expects Toronto to win the series against the big, bad Dodgers, but we are the grittiest team in baseball. Every game is important and I think it’s going to go six or seven.” – Bill Redford (Toronto Blue Jays Fan)
