Valentine’s Day! Hearts and love and all that… right? HAHA, no… Heartless is an amazing book by a decently well-known author (if you have ever heard of the Cinder series or Renegades, that’s this lady). I won’t beat around the bush that much. This book is the anti-Valentine book; perfect for the people who are one short of a pair and want to feel worse about it.

Heartless takes place in Wonderland, surprise! I would say that is a hard setting to pull off, but Meyer over here, she can do anything. The descriptions are incredible! Creative and clear, they reference all kinds of Wonderland media, so it’s extra fun to read if you’ve seen the movies or read the book! Delicious.

The wonderful, interesting world is made better thanks to the most intriguing characters that have ever graced a page. Most of them have been taken directly from the original source material, like the Mad Hatter or the Queen of Hearts, but Meyer makes them her own with unique twists. I can’t stress enough how original this book is! It’s hard to explain (because I don’t have this author’s skills), but it really is something to experience.

I recommend this book to the ends of the earth. READ IT! I DEMAND IT.

Spoilers

Be warned; this book gets sad and depressing. The ending is amazing, but it’s not a happy one. Plot armour is not a thing; there is no crutch, and everything is on the table. This book also includes the best chapter that has ever been written.

Super Super Spoilers

The chapter is basically a description of the Mad Hatter going mad. Throughout the book, the character is eccentric, but more-or-less has a hold of his senses. Here, however, he loses everything. It is written so richly, with perfect language. It is succulent, and just incredible.

Fine, I’ll include a lovey-dovey book, it’s on theme or whatever.

I have a love-hate relationship with this author. I love this book, but I HATE, with a passion that comes burning up from hell, the Queen’s Assassin series. What happened? How can the same author write such drastically different books? Anyway, this book is good and worth your time.

It’s a Cinderella-themed historical romance that is light and fun. Light enough that I recommended it to my grandma. Great for valentines, but only for the people who are secure in their loneliness. It is very cute, and THE DRAMA!! Just to make it interesting.

I rarely read non-fantasy (but I’m branching out, just give me time), so savour this little treat. And read this book; it’s adorable.

Spoilers: This one takes place in France, and the main character’s name is Cendrillon (which is French for Cinderella). There is no magic, and there is no love at first sight… The prince might not be her only option… Yeah, Cinderella never gets bored.
