Trump’s Executive Orders

In less than three weeks of Donald J. Trump reclaiming presidency after being reelected in 2024, the 47th president of the United States of America has already signed a large number of executive orders.

Gender Laws

President Trump has shown distaste for homosexuality and views the LGBTQ+ community negatively. That being said, Trump has already implemented multiple orders related to gender. He has banned transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports and announced that “the war on women’s sports is over.”

He has also signed an order to refuse gender-affirming care for those under the age of 19: “It is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” said Trump.

Finally, President Trump signed an order for the recognition of only two genders: “Agencies will cease pretending that men can be women and women can be men when enforcing laws that protect against sex discrimination,” said the President, in a very obvious attempt to remove the rights of members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Immigration and Refugees

President Trump made an attempt to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States whose parents are undocumented immigrants, as well as some legal immigrants. However, this order has been temporarily blocked by the judge, for it is unconstitutional.

Trump also signed an order in an attempt to suspend refugee admissions, leaving thousands of refugees stranded while they wait to be admitted into the U.S., which is being done case-by-case.

Other

The President has already signed so many executive orders that there is not enough room in this article to write them all, and therefore only some will be mentioned.

President Trump signed an executive order imposing 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and 10% tariffs on China. He signed an order for the U.S. to leave the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, which aimed to limit global warming. Trump signed an order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” within the United States, but not globally. Finally, President Trump rescinded 78 of Biden’s executive orders. “I’ll revoke nearly 80 destructive and radical executive actions of the previous administration,” said Trump.

President Donald Trump has made a bold and controversial start to his second term, with his swift executive actions that are already being challenged in court. His stance on issues such as gender rights, immigration, and global relations has already ignited intense debate across the country and around the world. The impact of his early decisions and these executive orders will likely shape the mentality of the U.S. for the next four years, and whether these actions ultimately lead to “Making America Great Again” or creating a dictatorship remains to be seen.
