John Abbott Bathroom Crisis

Typically, by the age of 3, most kids are potty-trained and have an adequate understanding of bathroom etiquette. Confusingly, this reality does not seem to be reflected within the John

Abbott bathrooms. The majority of the JAC student body is over the age of 17, so why are the states of the restrooms not reflective of it? We are CÉGEP students, smart and capable young adults. Can this truth not be maintained while defecating or washing your hands?

It is absurd to still have to share toilets and sinks with people who still need to be cleaned after. We may have janitors, but they are not here to clean up after each of your bathroom visits. Many complaints have been filed. The most notable ones are the restrooms in the AME and Casgrain building complexes.

The most common complaints are unflushed toilets, littered toilet paper, and sinks contaminated with water and hair. Is this really the environment in which you wish to receive your education? How hard is it to flush a couple more times if the first try was unsuccessful? How hard is it to wash your hands without flooding the rest of the premises? Is making sure your trash is actually trashed life-threatening? Be serious.

I come before you all, similar to how a childcare worker would to their 4-year-olds and plead to you to flush after yourselves and be mindful of your hygienic practices no matter the location. Please wipe the counters after having splashed water all over them, please pick up the brown paper balls after you missed trying to air ball them, and please, please, please remember bathrooms are shared public spaces. Leave them in a state you wish to find them in the next time you use them.
